Design Challenge
Design a decision-support tool that helps an embryologist choose an embryo, or a small embryo shortlist, from the current patient’s embryo cohort.
The tool may be a single visualization, a dashboard, or a coordinated set of visualizations. It should support expert review, comparison, triage, contextual reasoning, and documentation.
The challenge is not simply to rank all embryos in the historical dataset. The historical dataset is not the set of options for the current decision. Instead, it provides contextual evidence that can help the embryologist interpret the current patient’s embryos.
For example, the tool might help the embryologist ask:
- How have embryos with similar fragmentation, symmetry, developmental day, or PGT category performed in previous cases?
- How have embryos from patients with similar age group, BMI category, ovarian reserve, or hormone patterns performed historically?
- Are any of the current patient’s embryos similar to prior embryos that were associated with pregnancy?
- Are there current embryos with strong morphology but less favorable patient or hormone context?
- Are there current embryos with mixed evidence, such as favorable PGT category but high fragmentation or elevated progesterone?
- Are there historical patterns that make a current embryo look stronger, weaker, or more uncertain?
- Which current embryos should be selected, shortlisted, or sent for additional expert review?
